Ephesians Part One: Rooted in Christ

Teaching Series

Summary

Rooted in Christ is the first of a three-part Bible study series on the book of Ephesians. It includes seven teaching sessions that cover the first two chapters of Ephesians, and a seven-week daily study guide that will be available soon! Through this study, women learn that in Christ we aren’t just saved from something. We are saved to every spiritual blessing. Additionally, women learn foundational truths about the nature of sin and salvation, along with discovering all that they are and have in Jesus.

Session 1 – Every Spiritual Blessing Ephesians 1:1-3

We begin with Paul’s breathtaking reminder that God has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in Christ. Before the foundation of the world, He chose us to be holy and blameless before Him. Salvation is not our doing—it is God’s work from beginning to end, rooted in His love and His good pleasure.

Session 2 – Adopted as Sons and Daughters Ephesians 1:3-6

God’s choosing leads to adoption. Through Jesus Christ, we are not merely forgiven—we are welcomed into God’s family as His children. Adoption brings with it relationship, affection, security, fellowship, and inheritance. The gospel is not complete until we see ourselves not just as redeemed sinners but as beloved sons and daughters of the Father.

Session 3 – Redeemed through His Blood: Ephesians 1:7-14

Paul turns to the theme of redemption—freedom secured at great cost. Through the blood of Christ, we are released from guilt, from the futility of our old way of life, and one day from every effect of the Fall. Redemption is past, present, and future—and all of it is “to the praise of His glory.”

Session 4 – That You May Know Him Ephesians 1:15-19

Paul prays that believers would know God more deeply—not merely knowing about Him, but experiencing Him in covenant love. With the eyes of our hearts enlightened, we see the hope to which we’ve been called, the riches of God’s inheritance in His people, and the immeasurable power available to us in Christ. Knowing God leads us to want what He wants, shaping our desires and our lives around His truth.

Session 5 – Immeasurable Greatness Ephesians 1:18-23

Paul continues his prayer for believers, asking that they would know not only the hope of God’s calling and the riches of His inheritance, but also the “immeasurable greatness of His power toward us who believe.” This power is not potential or theoretical—it is active, effectual, and life-changing. It is the same power that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at the Father’s right hand, far above all rule, authority, and dominion, both now and forever.

Session 6 – Our Need for God’s Mercy Ephesians 2:1-3

In this session on Ephesians 2:1–3, Beth Lawrence unpacks humanity’s desperate need for God’s intervention. Drawing from Paul’s reminder that we were once “dead in our trespasses and sins,” she exposes the danger of the “I would never…” mindset that blinds us to our own sin nature. Through Scripture and reflection, this teaching reveals how every person—moral, religious, or otherwise—shares the same helpless condition apart from Christ. Only by recognizing the depth of our sin can we grasp the magnitude of God’s mercy and the miracle of salvation offered through Jesus. People need to hear this.

Session 7- The Miracle of Grace Ephesians 2:4-10

In this teaching from Ephesians 2:4–10, Beth Lawrence explores the breathtaking power of God’s grace that brings the spiritually dead to life. Moving from “I was one way, and now I am completely different,” this session reminds us that salvation is entirely God’s doing—an act of divine mercy and love that leaves no room for human boasting. We are saved by grace through faith, not by our own effort, and transformed into God’s workmanship, created to reflect His goodness in the world. When we truly grasp that our salvation is a miracle of mercy, we see God rightly, rest in His keeping power, and live in the freedom of grace.
